Medibank and Mum Walk

“Medibank is proud to partner with Mum Walk because we know that creating new social connections - especially through relatable group activities - is one of the strongest protective factors for new parents. Together, we’re supporting mums to build meaningful networks by providing opportunities to strengthen their mental fitness, and feel less alone during one of life’s biggest transitions.”

Dr. Shona Sundaraj, Medibank Group Medical Director

Loneliness isn’t a ‘soft feeling’; it’s a real health signal. It is one of the most significant public health challenges of our time. Mum Walk was started in response to the growing motherhood loneliness crisis, with over 90% of mums reporting feeling lonely after birth. Now, we’re proud to announce that Medibank - one of Australia’s leading health companies – is standing right beside us as our official Health Partner.

Together with the support of Medibank we can learn how loneliness and isolation uniquely impacts mums and parents and create even more ways to support meaningful connection.

Why Medibank?

Just like Mum Walk, Medibank take social health seriously. Medibank is currently in the midst of a bold 10-year commitment to reducing loneliness in Australia. They recognise that social health is often the "missing piece" of the mental health puzzle. Medibank’s research shows that major life transitions, like becoming a parent, are the biggest triggers for isolation. In fact, 70% of people going through a major life change report high levels of loneliness.

We know that connection is a powerful protective factor for our wellbeing, yet the transition into motherhood remains one of the most common triggers for loneliness and metal ill health.

Together, we are bridging that gap. By combining Mum Walk’s community-led movement with Medibank’s commitment to better health, we’re creating a national safety net for mums to make sure no mum has to walk through motherhood alone.
